World War I started in 1914 and went threw 1918. It was also known as the Great War, this was the first name given to WWI. It was supposed to be the war that stopped all wars, it affected 93% of the worlds population and it also affected 28 nations and was fought in 6 continents.The causes of World War I were nationalism, Imperialism, Arms Race, and Militarism. In world war I there were two different alliances, The Triple Alliance was Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy the other alliance was The Triple Entente and this was France, Great Britain,and Russia. The Triple Alliance was created in 1882 and The Triple Entente was created in 1907. The outbreak of war started when Ausria invades Serbia on July 29, 1914. The German government warned Russia that it must halt its mobilization within 12 hours. Russia ignored this warning and when they did Germany declared War on Russia. General Alfred von Schlieffen came up with a military plan that would start a two front war with both France and Russia, this was known as the Schlieffen Plan. Germany would conduct a small holding duck against Russia, mean while most of the German army would carry out a rapid invasion against France. World war I had many wars but, it also created new roles for women. When the men left for war women were asked to take over the jobs that had not been avaliable to them before. Womens jobs before the war were making toys sweing or taking care of the kids. With their husband off at war woman were doing jobs such as chimney sweeps, truck drivers, farm laborers, and factory workers in heavy industry. When their husnabs came back from war, the government , who had encouraged women to work was now taking their jobs away from them. If a women did stay with her job she was paid even less then the men.
